Music Sessions

Collaboration sparks creativity.

Music is a shared experience. Sound is all around us, outside and within. Making music gives our imagination a voice and lets our hearts roar!

One of my great joys is sharing music with other curious humans. Especially young humans with ideas of their own and something to say.

I am not a traditional music instructor, though they are awesome. I am a music maker. I keep my ears open for any sparks that appear. I find them while walking in the woods, performing in schools and, most often, when laughing with a collaborator at something surprising.

I make music in many different ways:  with my voice, drums,  bass guitars, mason jars, and even by throwing rocks into rivers. I also produce music. Through the years of collaborations, I discovered that digital audio production tools are potent platforms for exploring music on all levels. With a computer or a phone we can all make music.

Music Sessions are one-on-one open ended collaborations. They can be a one time jam or grow into a long friendship.

My teaching style is

Sessions are virtual. We will see each other on a video chat feed, hear and play along with each other in real time, adding to, changing and rearranging a shared project as we go. Make a HipHop beat. Perhaps a podcast? Compose the soundscape for a film, or create a new advertisement for your favorite snack. We might make a whole song using only our voices!

Learn by exploring, discovering, and finding solutions to problems that interest us. Music theory, rhythm, arrangement...it's all baked into the process.

I promise I won't give you a quiz. But you will, at the end of a session together, be able to say "I made music today."
